CUB DAY CAMP JUNE 1998 -
SCOUTING - TEXAS STYLE!
AN OUTDOOR ADVENTURE FOR CUBS OF ALL AGES
ABOUT CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP
All registered Cub Scouts can go to Cub Scout Day Camp! This is a fun-filled week of adventures for boys, held at Bob Woodruff Park in Plano. This year’s theme is "SCOUTING - TEXAS STYLE!"
At Cub Day Camp, scouts form new "Camp Dens" with boys from other local Cub Scout Packs, and follow a prepared schedule to enjoy crafts, games, nature studies, and carefully supervised BB and Archery activities each day. Many activities count towards the scout’s next Rank Advancement, or earn "Arrow Points" for Wolves and Bears. Webelos Scouts will work on several of their Webelos Badges at camp. Remember, you will want to choose your camp based on the rank you will be working towards in June, so if you are now a Tiger Cub or Wolf Cub, plan on attending a Wolf and Bear Camp. If you will be completing the Bear Trail or the first year of the Webelos program soon, plan to go to Webelos Camp!
Each Pack is required to send at least one volunteer parent to serve as a Camp Leader for every five scouts at camp, to travel with them and help them in their new experiences. Any parent may participate! If you want to join your son’s group for all or part of the week, all you need are the appropriate signup forms and the special training offered twice before Day Camp. Camp Leader Training is required so that you will know what to expect and what kind of support the boys need from their Camp Leaders. Child care ("Papoose Land") is offered for little brothers and sisters 3-6 years old, while their parents are attending camp as Camp Leaders.
If the scouts from your Pack have sufficient adults serving as Camp Leaders, then other parents who wish to participate can help as Station Staff, running the activities, crafts, games, etc. for all the boys to enjoy. The Camp Program Director provides all the program materials and information, and will contact those interested in being Station Staff well before camp time. Volunteers are the key to a successful Day Camp! We need you to make it great!
HOW TO REGISTER FOR CAMP
Cub Scouts, Adult Volunteers, and Papooses each have a special Information Form that must be completely filled out. Everyone at camp is also required to have a notarized Medical form on file at camp. This includes adults, scouts, and papooses! A Job Description sheet for adults registering as Camp Leaders or Station Staff must be signed, so your Camp Director knows you understand what your job at camp entails. Any adult planning to attend camp all week (five days) should be registered as an Adult Leader with the Boy Scouts of America. If a parent is not already signed up as a Den Leader or other leadership position in the Pack, ask your Pack Committee for a form to register as a Committee Member. You do not have to be a Den Leader to be a Camp Leader - any parent may sign up!
Registration is easy - your Pack Day Camp Coordinator has all the paperwork you need, and will collect everyone’s forms and payment and turn them in together on Registration Day. (No forms should be mailed anywhere!) All participants get an official Camp T-Shirt which must be worn each day at camp. The shirt is included in the registration fees for scouts and papooses. If parent volunteers serve three or more days, their shirt is free! Adults working less than three days must include $5 for their shirt when registering. You may request an extra shirt when you register - just include another $5.
Scouts whose forms are turned in by their Pack Day Camp Coordinator on MARCH 14 pay only $40! Those who wait until the second Registration Day on APRIL 18 (or turn in incomplete forms and must re-submit them) will pay $50. After that day, the camp fee is $60 and must be turned in by the Pack Day Camp Coordinator at Cub Leader Roundtable, on MAY 12th. Papoose fees are only $1 per day they attend, plus $5 for the required Camp Shirt. Papoose fees and extra shirt fees should be turned in with the registration forms.
Do you know an older boy or girl (age 14 -18) who would like to serve as a "Redshirt" (Junior Staffer) at camp? Your Pack Day Camp Coordinator also has job descriptions and registration information forms for them! There is no registration fee for these valuable young volunteers, unless they can participate only one or two days. "Part-timers" must pay $5 for their Camp T-Shirt. "Redshirts" need to attend the Camp Leader Training, and of course turn in a notarized medical form..
Early registration guarantees
your son will be able to attend camp with his denmates
at the time and date you prefer! Space is limited in some camps!
